Based on my own personal experience—both as an investor in recent years and an expert witness in years past—rarely do more than three or four variables really count. Everything else is noise.

I used to look for the Holy Grail of Success.

I’m not exactly sure what I had in mind, but it was probably something about gaining some sort of secret insight in the world of Success that would make me rich. As if all I had to do was find this one piece of information and all my dreams would be unlocked.

Instead, what I discovered was much more mundane.

Hard work in the right direction.

I’ve since created this formula:

Accurate Thinking + Right Behavior = Success

If there is a Holy Grail of Success, I think that’s it.

Which is a let down because, well, it requires hard work. Most people searching for the mythical Holy Grail -- myself included -- are looking for the easy path to riches.

I suppose you could get lucky and find an easy path, but history also shows us that people who get money fast that way tend to lose it all almost as quickly.

This is why I’m such a fan of the tortoise approach to wealth building. i.e., slow and steady wins the race.

Why it matters …

This may be a case of, “the market’s not moving much right now, so find something to write about!” ha ha The conversation between the two leaders is about the sale of TikTok which will hardly be substantive for a major move on the market.  It is more likely that weekly, monthly and quarterly options expiring today will push the indexes down near the end of the day as folks cut losses and take profits. The new cash available next week will take 3 or 4 days to find a home so next week will start slow and build most likely barring some major world event.

Comments: The major indexes are mixed with bitcoin darker red. Near unchanged on all accounts as the market hovers as of this writing. We might expect the Russell 2000 small cap stocks to keep making subtle moves higher (although the screenshot is a bit red) the next few days and weeks with the cut in interest rates by the Fed and more cuts hinted for the coming months.  This will add some fuel for small business owners.
